I've since learned a tad bit more. My great grandfather's name was JAMES Ira Cauley. His father or grandfather was originaly a McCauley (my grandfather believes it was Mc not Mac)who moved to Texas (apparently on the run from the law) and changed his name by dropping the Mc. My grandfather is named for both of his grandfathers. His paternal grandfather's name was John.. Maybe he's the one from Texas. I must say I AM intrigued!! Does this sound familiar to ANYONE???? Thanks!
