Memories of Mamie Ann Caughron edwards 1887-1970

Charlie Caughron's parents came to America about 1797 for religious freedom, when the Pope determined to make Ireland a Catholic state. Charlie was born about 1790 or 1793.
He had four brothers, Samuel, John, William and Andrew.

Lucy McGinty's family came to America about 1750 or 1760 for religious freedom, from Scotland. They fought in the war of 1776. I have no date of her birth, but have been told that she was 53 years old when her youngest child was born.

Charlie Caughron and Lucy McGinty were married in Tenn. They raised 15 children, my father was the 13th. They had 11 girls then 3 boys and another girl.

This is all I know of the caughron or McGinty families except:
Lucy died, I think, in 1886. Was sick less than 12 hours. Charlie died, I think, in 1887. Not sick-just fained away. His last words were "I want to go on and see Lucy".

They were of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Their old slaves refused freedom after the civil War.
Charlie Caughron came to California in '49, returning in '50 or '51.
The nugget of gold he got home with was described as a large drop (the size of a man's thumb), that looked like it had started to drip, and hardened in the fall.
Nine of the girls died in childbirth from a year to eighteen months after they married. The three that raised their families were Elizabeth Anderson, Mary Jane Adkinson and Beatrice Huddleston.

Another seperate 'memory' later.
