Wondering if you can help me on these Caudill names in Granville. I am a Tudor ( spelling changed to Tedder )that went from Granville to Wilkes. I know the Caudill family was in Wilkes before my Tedder's. Earliest record found so far in Wilkes on my Tedder's is 1814. I have a petition in Granville dated 1771. It is against tithable tax. They are requesting that wives and children who were free people of color be exempt from paying extra tax. Signers on this petition are James Caudill, Isom, Caudill, Joseph Hill, JNO TUDOR, and others. I have a land grant in Chatham for John Tuder issued 1780. Chain carriers Shadrach Hill and Johan ( bad hand writting ) Caudle who signed X We had 3 John Tudor's in the area of Granville. John Tudor Sr, his son Jr in Granville and John Tudor/Tedder of Chatham. From looking at the names on the land grant and the petition it seems John Tudor/Tedder of Chatham may have been the John who signed the petition. This John may have been in Granville prior to Chatham. John Tudor Sr died, his son Jr moved back to VA and then KY. By 1800 the only Tedder ( Tudor ) left in that area are in Chatham. John Tedder age 45 +, William Tedder age 26-45, Harmon Tedder age 26-45 and James age 16-26. I have Harmon and James Tudor listed in Granville tax 1791 Fishing Creek Dist. Harmon 1 poll with 150 A ( he owned 150 a in Chatham per deeds, no land record in Granville has been found ) and James 1 poll. They are the only Tudor's listed in all of Granville at this time. Harmon Tudor/Tedder moved to Wilkes by 1814. I have found no connections to the Caudill-Hill family once we are in Wilkes. Have you come across any Tudor-Caudill-Hill connections in Granville other than what I have posted? Any help greatly appreciated Thank you J Notify Administrator about this message?
