Very interesting, especially the bit about James Blakeney. I thought that he might have been adopted or something but your explanation seems more likely.


I do have a copy of the census showing Charles and Emma Caudell ( both 42 then) living at Waltham St Lawrence in a cottage. He was a bricklayer. Their son William who was 22 was a bricklayer their daughter Fanny was a domestic servant , their son Frederick who was 13 was a labourer , and their youngest daughter Caroline was only 9.
