The first incidence of this spelling occurs in the 1920's. Prior to that the name was Caudle in Grayson County VA, and in 1850, when the family was is Surry County NC it was Cordle and Cordell. The line I am tracing would be the family of James Caudle and Mary Yarber in Grayson Co. VA. If that is your geographical area, then your Caudell may be related to this line.
