I also have a connection to "Catto" from Aberdeen, Scotland. Helen Catto married William Pittendreigh on January 25, 1818 in
Udny, Aberdeen. One of their four children,
Margaret Pittendreigh, born July 3, 1822 also in Udny, Aberdeen married Alexander Black on November 25, 1854. One of their children William Black born February 16, 1857 in Old Marchar, Aberdeen married Mary Ann Black (maiden name same as married name)
who was born on March, 18, 1858 who was the daughter of William Black and Elizabeth Cruickshank of Newhills, Aberdeen. My Grandmother Agnes Black was the daughter of Mary Ann & William Black. She and her parents along with brothers and sisters emigrated to the United States about 1909 and ported in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I'm not sure if there is any connection, but I thought it strange that both names "Catto"
and "Cruickshank" along with the area of Newhills are in both lines.
