I found the census taker used the initials "J. C." for your grandfather. I have seen many mistakes like this. It shows James father and mother were born in VA and Eva's parents were born in AL.

Census > U.S. Census > 1930 United States Federal Census > Oklahoma > Jackson > Altus > District 5       

Catron, J. C. 48 KY VA VA Laborer Odd Jobs
Eva 36 AL AL AL
May Leone 17 TX KY AL
Elmer 8 OK KY AL
Marie 2 1/12 OK KY AL
