Cato Families in the Philippines

Hello there!

There are some Cato clans here in the Philippines, an island in South East Asia.

There are variations of the Cato surname like Catu.

My own father is LEONILO CATU. However, he changed his surname to "Cato" when he was in high school when he read history books mentioning the Roman Senator Cato.

But I still believe that Catu is just a variation of Cato or vice versa.

When I tried to research on the "Catu" surname, some Catu family turned out in Guatemala, most of them came from the Mayan Indians.

I also found out in my internet search that there is a Catu City in Brazil.

If anyone knows where the Cato or Catu surname originated, please let me know. Specially how the Cato/Catu clan came here to the Philippines.

My father and his brothers and sisters have foreign features like high-bridged nose and white complexion, unlike ordinary Filipinos who look very much like Malays or Asian.

Thanks a lot.

Marian Cato
