Dear Donna,
The Catholic Church doesn't keep records of deaths and funerals EXCEPT for burials in Catholic Cemeteries. 1902 is recent enough that a person could expect to find some good records. Write to the town clerk of San Jose or to the county clerk and find out how to get copies of vital records. There is usually a fee for those records. Type San Jose, California, county clerk into your search engine. I can't search more right now, but if I have time in the next couple of days, I'll try to verify the vital records process for San Jose.

The Church has records of baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, and Religious Vows.
Sincerely,
Kate Hagel
