death record

My GreatGrandparents died in San Jose CA during the years 1902-1904 before the state required death records. Would the Church have a record of their death? I'm also looking for the Cemetery they would be buried in. One of their children died about the same time (1902) and is buried at Calvary in San Jose. I have written this cemetery and the parents are NOT buried there but 3 of the children are. I wonder where they are and if there was a mistake and their burial was not recorded. Would the Church have a record of the burial? I would appreciate any advise and thank you for your time.
