I think people going to Virginia had to swear the oath that recognized the King of England as the head of the church, so there might not have been too many Catholics, because if you swore that oath, you basically excommunicated yourself and joined the Church of England. For Maryland, it's different. Some of Lord Baltimore's descendants went to lead the Maryland colony, which practiced tolerance of all faiths in the beginning according to Lord Baltimore's concept of a society.Any history of the Catholic Church in America will give you the names of some of the citizens, especially the Bishop. The Bishop of Baltimore was the first Catholic bishop in the US and his diocese was the entire US at the time. You can probably get his name online from History of Maryland websites.St. Elizabeth Seton started the Catholic school system from Baltimore after anti Catholic bigotry forced her out of New York after her husband died and she converted to Catholicism.I'll look around and post what I find. Sincerely,
Kate
