On my Great Grandmother Anna Ronan McNamara's Baptismal in January 1880 (St. Boniface, NYC) and my Grandmother Rose Mulvaney McNamara's from January 1915 (St.Patrick's Cathedral, NYC), their Godfather's names are those shared by older brothers.
Anna's was a William Ronan, her brother William would only have been 13 at the time of her Christening. My Grans eldest brother John F. would have been 12 in Jan 1916.
I know that many directives have seesawed concerning ages of recieving rites. Is it possible that their brothers are their Godfathers? 12 and 13 seem way to young , to me.
