I'm a professional writer finally preparing a long-overdue biography of my cantankerous great-great-great-great grandfather, James Leander Cathcart. His life from the Barbary pirates capture era onward in well documented but I'm having a heckuva time piecing together his childhood and early adolescence as well as the role of his parents -- particularly the reasons for James being shipped off to sea at an early age.
