I have a copy of the OB placed in Asheville, NC newspaper which reads as follows.
Eugene M. Cates, of Leicester who died Sunday at his home, was buried yesterday at Newfound Baptist Church cemetery following rites at the church by the Rev. R.R. Mehaffey and Rev. J. P. Matson. L.C. Jones, S. M. Mears (my grandfather), C. B. Hayes, W. S. Hampton, Arthur J. Miller and Grover Robertson, members of Leicester council 212, Junior Order United American Mechanics, were active pallbearers. Mr. Cates was 56 years old.
Surviving are a daughter, Miss Elsie Cates; three sons, Mark, Carl and Charles Cates; two brothers, Alsie Cates of Clay County and Limsey Cates of Swaim County and three sisters, Mrs. John Foster, Alexander; Mrs. Lalan Sams, Asheville and Mrs. Laura Nelson, of Ela, NC
Think this was about 1934. Thouht someone might find some new info here.
