To Esther Oviedo:
Your post was very interesting because I am attempting to find a connection back to the late 15th century, early 16th century in Spain.A "Catalano" as you said, is someone who came from Catalan in Spain. There is a recorded mass exodus from Catalan and I am sure other parts of Spain as a result of the expulsion of Sephardic Jews ordered by Ferdinand and Isabella in the late 15th Century. Most of these expelled went to other countries around the Mediterranean. My ancestors came to Sicily around that time.
In my family there was a story of our ancestors being of upper class in Spain but who were forced to leave Spain. My siblings and I are named according to the Sephardic (Jewish) convention so I am pretty certain that we are descendants of those expelled Jews.
I invite others with this kind of connection to join in this discussion.
