Catalano's from Calatafina, Sicily
My Grandparents were Girolamo Catalano and
Gaetana Barlotta Catalano.Girolamo's mother remarried after the death of his father and he had half-brothers with the last name of Marsalla.My grandparents
were from Calatafina, Sicily.Girolamo was born in 1873 and Gaetana Barlotta
(Catalano) was born in 1883.They settled
in upstate New York.My grandfather's half brother's settled in the Bronx.They came to this country in the early 1900's.They
had 4 children (all now deceased):Anna/
Antonette (Tarricone); Rose (Russo);
Nicholas, and Maria (Errigo).All lived
in upstate New York.Girolamo's mother's
name was Antonetta (or something like that?)
I'D APPRECIATE HEARING FROM ANYONE WHO HAS CATALANO RELATIIVE'S THAT ORIGINATED FROM
CALATAFINA, SICILY.That said, I realize
(as an older relative mentioned) that
in Italy, the name Catalano is as common
as the name "Smith" is in the United States...but I'm an optimist.
Thank you!
