How exciting that you are interested in your DeCastro lineage. The DeCastro family, I think was probably very large, and, as best I can determine came from Castile originally, somewhere around 800ad. As to which lineage you are from, you need more information to begin your search. I suggest you try to find out some names and dates first. What was your grandfathers name? where was he born, and when, etc. then you must back track from there. Otherwise you are pretty much going to spend a lot of time for very little, if any information.
Why, do you think, did your grandmother keep this information "secret"? There's a mystery there, I bet.
I would recommend Rootsweb.com to get started. They have some very good directions there, as does this site.
