Sephardic Jew/de Castro connection?

I am tracing my Canary Island ancestors, who came to Louisiana, USA, in the 1770's. I am descended from many Canary Island surnames,
such as Hernandez, Sanchez, Esteves, Ruiz, De Castro and Silva.
I have found in researching some of these names that they could have been "conversos", or Sephardic Jews made
to convert to Christianity in the Spanish Inquesition. Also that spanish names with "ez" endings and Spanish surnames
that are cities in Spain, that these are Sephardic Jews, who probably do not know their heritage. Is all this fact or fiction?
