Origin of Casto name may be French
Recently, I was in southern France in Provence and came across a small cemetery in a small town that had a number of graves from the 19th century marked Casteau. This is pronounced the same as Casto. There were probably many more French in NJ in the 18th century than Spanish. Just a thought. (I did not record the tombstone inscriptions.)
