Gary,
On CD-Rom I have some of the marriage records for Alabama, Georgia and South Carlina. They list a Sally Castleberry
marrying a Moses Morris on 2 Jan 1817. Susannah Castleberry who married my great great grandfather James Hutchins on 14 Nov 1806 could not possibly have married Moses Morris on the date that they list - 2 Jan 1817.Perhaps, that listing is in error or as you say perhaps Sally was a sister of Susannah or not even related. I agree that Sally is usually a nick name for Sarah not Susannah.
According to a photocopy of the entries in James Hutchins Family Bible in my possession Susannah Hutchins died on 17 July 1829 age about 48 years in Claiborne Co., MS having born 12 children between 1807 and 1823.According to the same bible and his gravestone James was born on 14 Aug 1781 and died on 14 Mar 1853 age 71 years and 7 months at 1 A.M. His gravestone also says that he migrated from Georgia to the territory of Mississippi in 1810. The bible confirms the court record that they were married on 14 Nov 1806.
The court record which I found in Warren Co., Georgia, Book 1, p. 21, record #514 gives Susannah's name as Susannah Castleberry alias Susannah MOSES not MORRIS (Photocopy in my possession). Martha Russell in her posted message says Susannah's first husband was Moses MORRIS, but gives no dates of marriage for either union.COULD HER FIRST HUSBAND POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN NAMED MORRIS MOSES INSTEAD OF MOSES MORRIS OR MAYBE SUSANNAH WAS NOT PREVIOUSLY MARRIED AT ALL?????When I was in GA, I questioned the county clerk in Warren Co. about the alias next to Susannah's name and she said that sometimes young ladies who were living with a family other than their own would use that families name!!!Would like to hear any comments concerning this matter.I feel perhaps that Susannah and Sally (Sarah)were two different people and could have been sisters as do you.
