A beginner here, with all of 3rd grade Spanish. For years my family thought our GGG Grandmother was named Ramona Alvarado. Her Uncle is said to have been Romualdo Pacheco. We are investigating the possibility that Juliana Francisca Ramona y Castillo could be her mother. Juliana would not have been married at the time my GGG Grandmother was born. IF this were possible; Question 1: Do I understand correctly, that Francisca may be Juliana's maternal Grandmother's (father's ?)name ? 2nd Question: IF this is the case, then would my GGG Grandmother have had a given name followed by Alvarado y Ramona ? This GGG Grandmother had children with a man of the last name Cathey. I believe that they were married, but have no official document. She would probably have been born about 1840 - 1845. Her 3 children were orphaned 1868-1870 after their Father, Mr. Cathey (sp?), was robbed, murdered, and left at the river, and a short while later she herself was killed by Indians. One of these orphans (Jane Medora) is my GG Grandmother. Another, Eunice, was "raised by her Spanish relatives in California", and the son, William H. died at about age 14 in Shasta, California. Two generations of women in this line have died when their children were infants, and much information lost as a result. Jane Medora had a daughter and grandaughter both given the middle name Francis, which may be co-incidental, but interesting, as they had no ancestors of that name, in other family branches. If any of you have heard any of these stories in connection with your own family history, or any comments/ suggestions as to how we might procede in our search, or with reason to believe that i am looking in the wrong direction, please respond, thank you very much, Notify Administrator about this message?
