Montgomery Co, VA Order Book 12 p. 173 (3 Feb 1801): Matthew Castillo heretofore a subject of Great Britain having emigrated into this Commonwealth came into court and took an oath that he intended to reside in this Commonwealth in future and also took the Oath of Fidelity to the Commonwealth.

Montgomery Co, VA Order Book 16 p. 51 (Wednesday 2 Sept 1807): Matthew Castillo heretofore a subject of the King of Great Britain came into court and established by satisfactory proof that he was residing within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States between the 18th day of June 1798 and the 14th day of April 1802 and that he has continued to reside within the same ever since and that he has resided in the Commonwealth of Virginia one year at least and it further appearing to the satisfaction of the court that during those periods he has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the constitution of the United States and well (?) to the good order and happiness of the same and he having declared an oath that he will support the constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiances and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignity whatever and particularly to George the Third King of Great Britain; he is therefore admitted as a citizen of the United States.
