additional information: One person my mother visited as a child was "lewis or Louis", her "Uncle" and his wife? "Merath"? Also my mother's half-sister (her cousin?)named Carolyn was born "near Lafayette, Louisiana". The named may also be spelt "Casteel, Castell, Kastell, Castille, or another variation. The few records I have salvaged are water damaged, but some cousins? had different spelling. This would have been before standardized spelling was adopted, therefore many variations are present.
