Derivation of name Castile or Castell

My second great grandfather, Anders Carlsson who arrived in Boston in 1848 with his brother Jonas Magnus, changed his name at some point (before 1849 when he married Sarah Anderson in New Sweden, Iowa) to Andrew Castile as did his brother become John Castile. I am very curious as to the reason they chose Castile or Castell (it appears in both spellings in various records). Does anyone know where the surname originated? Thank you --- if you have questions or need data about the Castiles of Iowa, I have lots of info. Darillyn
