A brief history of the family of John Harrison Casteel and Elon Metcalf has been published in "Pioneers of Eastern Kentucky, Their Feuds and Settlements" by Bernice Calmes Caudill. Published by Creative Printing, Cincinnati, Ohio. 98 pages.

This covers their 12 children and many grandchildren. John Harrison Casteel was a son of John Casteel, Sr. Virginia Militia 1775-1780, half-blood Cherokee Indian born in Greenbriar County, VA, now WV. etc.
