John Henry Casteel, the eldest son of Sir James D. Casteel, survived his father as a Baronet in AUTHORITY “Burkes General Armory 1844”…….. John Casteel came from Spain married Fawn Walkingstick- a full blooded Cherokee in GA. They had one son: John Harrison Casteel. He married Ellen Metcalfe. John Harrison Casteel, son of John Casteel Sr., VA Militia 1775-1780, half blood Cherokee born in Greenbriar Co. VA, now West VA. In 1778. John Sr followed son to Kentucky in 1780(circa). John Harrison came to Kentucky over the Boone Trace in 1795. He married Ellen Metcalfe in Knox Co. now Laurel Co. Kentucky in 1805. He served as a scout for Andrew Jackson in the war of the Creek Indians in TN and GA.He also served as a scout for Gov. Shelby and Col. William Whitney at the Battle of the Thames were the great Indian Chief Tecumseh was killed. John Harrison and Ellen settled on White Oak Branch, a tributary of the Rockcastle River,now in Laurel Co.Family tradition has related that Ellen’s (in some places spelled Elon) father, John Metcalfe Sr., erected the first cabin as a dwelling place in what is now Laurel Co and that John H. Casteel, with the help of his father-in-law erected the second cabin as a dwellin place. TO THE UNION OF JOHN H> AND ELLEN(ELON)METCALFE CASTEEL 1. Rebecca, born 1806 married Albert Searcy. Descendents unknown to writer. James Casteel the 6th child of John H. and Ellen married Elizabeth Wild on 19 March 1837 in Manchester , Clay Co. Kentucky. She died in 1862 but James lived until 1897.TO this union were born the following children. 1.Ellen, born 1838 married Richard Wilson
