Hope someone can help me identify the writer of a personal diary 1886 - 1887. It is a man that lives in Princeton Missouri. The first entry is the birth of his daughter Adda Jane March 23, 1886. His wife's name is Aldonena or Aldorena or Aldovena. This writer was born December 4, 1855 and he works for J. C. Casteel & Kesterson in a store they own. This store gets dissolved and he then works for J. C. Casteel only. Names he mentions are: Mother & Father (when they visit), Uncle John Casteel, J. C. Casteel, Robert Casteel, Felix Casteel, Thomas ?, Millard, Aunt Jesse, Amy Casteel, Aunt Amanda, Grant, Sarah, Martha, Mary, William, Aunt Sarah, E. J. King. (some of these people are mentioned as visiting, but not where they actually live...possibly Kentucky, neighboring communities, or Illinois) Many other names are mentioned that I assume were neighbors, Doctors, Preachers - Last Names: Kesterson & Squire Kesterson, Bien, Powers, Bristow, Stanley, Johnson, Devlin, Evans, Shaw, Boyle, Dechler, Wolf, Snyder, etc. Apparently Thomas has epilepsy and lives with or very close to the writer. They also work together in the store, go to church together, many entries of Thomas's spells, etc. (maybe his brother?) He writes and sends money to the Kings (E. J.)and Mrs. King was with him and his wife at the birth of their daughter along with Mrs. Shaw & Dr. Bristow. He must be related to the Casteel family, but how I just don't know. He mentions Aunt Amanda was expected for dinner and she did not come, then states a baby was born at Uncle John Casteel's house. Entry date is January 9, 1887. I think there is a J. C. Casteel and a John Casteel as he refers to them differently, but that is just my assumption. Could be that when it is business related he refers to the person as J. C. Casteel and when it is of a personal nature refers to him as John or Uncle John Casteel??? Casteels' seem to make trips to Kentucky and one might be a civil war veteran as there is reference to John Casteel & Family travelling to a soldiers' reunion. I think Princeton is in Mercer County, MO. Caineville, Trenton, St. Louis, Kansas, Illinois, Chicago .... are mentioned also. The diary is very fragile and I have only listed some of the names, towns, states, and news items that it contains. I am willing to read it more thoroughly, if someone thinks there may be a connection to their descendents. I would greatly appreciate any help on identifying the diary writer. It might also help others understand some of the family connections of the Casteels. Colleen
