Interesting, I always like to find fellow Thomastown researchers :)

There are 2 death indexes - one an early one that you can email for lookups:

Contact Cidney Engberg, IL Death Index Lookups - 1916-1948
Eng110@aol.com

FREE IL DEATH CERTS (post 1920 gave parents' names)
http://vitalrec.com/il.html

AND the later death index can be found for a nominal fee from a volunteer named RAG below (or at the Newberry Library in Chicago?)

Request a death index look-up and then a copy of Chicago obit from RAG at email address: rag1@attglobal.net (very dependable --nominal fee for copying costs only $2.50 each, no charge if they can't find it!) See http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcook/index.htm -- "volunteers"
for details on RAG

There is also the Social Security Death Index?
http://ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm

This is interesting, only because of the birthdate ... could it be mixed up and supposed to be 3/13?

EDWARD CASSIN Request Information
SSN 342-07-9454 Residence: 60609 Chicago, Cook, IL
Born 31 Mar 1880 Last Benefit:
Died Jun 1966 Issued: IL (Before 1951)

Look at the Cassins in the IL marriage database ---
http://cyberdriveillinois.com/cgi-bin/archives/marriage.s

Go to ellisislandrecords.org and I see a William who was 23 yrs from Thomastown -- one arriving in 7/30/1903 and going to "Uncle Thomas's" at 337 Oakwood Blvd, in Chicago"

And then in 1905 (24 yrs) going to his home at 1337 N. Clark Street in Chicago and traveling with his cousin? THomas Walsh (who is going to same address, to his "cousin Wm Cassin's)

And then Wm. J. traveling at age 30 in 1911 as a US citizen. No manifest available.

There are a slew of John Cassins -- the two I clicked on were from Kilkenny going to NY to a sister Delia Burkes' home (he was a grocery clerk). There also seems to be a crew member named John Casssin ....

There are Ellie & Maggie from Thomastown traveling to Yonkers, NY (home) in 1899 ...

What you really need is a lookup in the Chicago Irish Family database at Ancestry.com ... lovely datebase ...
