Just curious Betty - do you have any documentation (bible records, etc.) regarding the date of birth on your William. On the 1800 Chesterfield District, S.C. census records (my source says legibility is of poor quality) there appeared to be three "Heads of Family".They were as follows: William Cassity, William Cassity, Jr. and Zach Cassity. It is doubtful that either of these Williams would have been your William as yours was only four years old at that time and would not have been listed as "Head of Family".The William Cassity, Jr. above is not proven to be the son of the William Cassity listed above, as far as I know. Thus, it is possible that either of the three could have been the father of your William, if in fact, yours was born in the Chesterfield area.On the 1810 Chesterfield District, S.C. census records a Wm. Cassity, Head of Family, has 2 males ages 10 - 14 (your William would have been approximately 14 to 15 years of age in 1810).Also in the 1810 records my ggggrandfather, Benjamin Cassity, is listed as Head of Family. He was born abt. 1784 and it is assumed that his father was one of the three listed on the 1800 census records.Although Benjamin did have as son named William, his William was born abt. 1812.Also on the 1810 census records Zacchariah Cassity, Head of Family, is listed with 3 males ages 15 - 19.Therefore, based on the records available and legible and, if your William was born in 1796 and residing in Chesterfield District in 1810, one might assume that his father could have been either the Wm. Cassity listed in 1810 or the Zacchariah listed in 1810.I do not have a list of the descendants of this Zacchariah or of this William, as I have only a documented tree of Benjamin.Someone out there may have a list of the children of this Wm. and this Zacchriah.I hope some of this information helps. If you find any documentation at all on your William or if you discover who his father might be, I would love to hear from you.As you may have heard, Sherman's troops burnt down the courthouse in Chesterfield and a lot of our family records went up in smoke.Feel free to email me direct at [email protected] Hunting, Ellen Norris
