Cape Cod Times (Hyannis, MA) - June 5, 2009 Deceased Name: Mettrel M. "Mitch" Cassidy FALMOUTH - Mettrel M. "Mitch" Cassidy, of Falmouth, died on June 2, 2009, at the JML Care Center in Falmouth. She was 78 years old. Mrs. Cassidy previously resided on Mill Road in Falmouth and at the Heritage on Ter Heun Drive. A native of Greenville, Ala., Mrs. Cassidy moved to Cape Cod in the early 1950s for summer employment while a student at Athens College. During the summer, she met the late Bernard J. Cassidy, a native of Falmouth. The two were married for 45 years before his death in 1999. A former member of the Woods Hole Golf Club, Mrs. Cassidy was an avid golfer and a champion tournament bridge player. During the 1970s, she co-owned a girls' apparel store in Falmouth Center named "Sugar 'n Spice." After closing the store, she obtained her real estate license and sold residential real estate throughout Falmouth. She was also an accomplished cook and baker. During the 1980s, she baked desserts for the Chart Room Restaurant in Cataumet. Mrs. Cassidy is survived by her daughter, Jane M. Mudge and son-in-law, Richard Mudge of Norwalk, Conn.; sons, James B. Cassidy of Falmouth, and R. Michael Cassidy and daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Cassidy of Winchester. She has two grandsons, Seamus and Jack Cassidy, also of Winchester. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret M. Cassidy of Falmouth. A memorial service will be held at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Falmouth Center, on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
