John, If you expect to find relatives you must first find out when your ancestor came from Germany and exactly who he was and where he was from.To do this yu must go back one generation at a time. And even if you know this it is very difficult to find relatives in Germany. I have two Cassel lines. One is the line of 3 brothers from Kreigsheim. my ancestor was Yellis Cassel who came in 1727, That was 8 generations ago. I know of at least 4 unrelated Cassel families that came before the Rev. War, and a good many after that period.
My other Cassel family came from Alsace. There are no records in Kreigsheim. I suggest you just go and enjoy sightseeing and meet as many Germans as you can. If you don't know by now who your German ancestors were, you have little chance of sucess. Just have fun.
