Henry married Margaret Mitchell in 1734 in the Independent Church in Georgetown or Charleston ** South Carolina. In 1736 Henry received a land grant from the King in the Township of Williamsburgh, in Cravens County, SC . This grant was followed by others and they settled on the Black River, opposite Lynches Creek in what is now Clarendon, County, South Carolina . There is an old map made by Captain Cook ( quote ) "A Map of the Province of South Carolina , Published according to Act of Parliament July 7, 1773 and Sold by H. Parker in Cornhill" , showing the Cassels name although it is spelled (Castles).
Henry Cassels was one of approx. 16 men to sign the Camden Declaration of Independence, which was a pre Declaration of Independence. He may not have fought in the Rev. war but he took an active part in supplying provisions to the troops. He must have believed strongly in the fight for Independence because one of his sons who did not, left and went to the Bahamas to live at this time.

In circa 1770 Henry was a Justice of the Peace.
