Cassady Family Genealogy Forum

Bob, you have no idea how happy I am to see this post! I have been trying to figure out who my great, great grandfather decended from for years. I knew he was listed as L.A. Cassady in the 1870 census, but his son who was 6 when he died, always thought his name was Calvin. We knew he was listed as Loyd Casady in the 1850 census and he and his brother C.J. Casady were living with a guy by the name of Pierce, which lead us to suspect their parents were deceased at that time. We also knew that LA was born in N.C. in 1843.
After reading your information I'm almost positive that he was Lord (sounds a lot like Loyd) Alexander, son of James Cassady. It all adds up, as James was apparently deceased in 1848. I'm still not sure why his son thought his name was Calvin, unless he just had his uncle's name stuck in his head or if LA used Calvin as a nickname or what -- there does seem to be a lot of Calvin's in the family.
Do you by any chance have any information on John Cassady's parents or his wife, Elizabeth's parents?
