Sydney Cash in S.C. circa 1800

I am looking for information regarding earlier generations leading to Sydney Cash of Cowpens, S.C., born circa 1800, my great-great grandfather. His son was James Henry Cash who fathered John William Cash (my grandfather) in 1872 and Edward Rufus Cash. They remained in the Cherokee Co., S.C. and Cleveland Co., N.C. area until J.W.'s death in 1964. Anyone branched from this lineage may find it especially interesting as J.W.'s son Wilbur was W.J. Cash who wrote the well-recognized "The Mind of the South" which has spawned in turn two biographies, each of which contains some interesting commentary about these earlier generations and other Cashes in that area a century and more ago.
