Thomas W Cash and Mattie Sargent marriage
All indications are that Thomas W Cash and Mattie Sargent married in the 1890s and according to the 1900 census they were married 9 years (or in 1891). All censuses after that list Thomas W (or on one occasion T W) and Mattie together with their children.
However, my visit to the Cherokee County Courthouse reveled some very confusing marriage certificates showing: (1) Thomas W Cash married Miss Ella Adams on 4 May 1891, and (2) Thomas M.C. Cash married Mattie Sargeant on 8 May 1893. There is no certificate in Cherokee otherwise certifying TW and Mattie as married.
What gives ?!?! Are Thomas W Cash and Thomas M C Cash somehow the same? Did they both marry different people and then both remarry to one another? Are there any family members who heard rumors as to TW and Mattie's early years?
Children being born during these years include:
Alice (1891), Amos (1983), Ada (1895), Lonnie (1898), Minnie (1899), Andy (1905), Arthur (1907), Odessa (1908), Pauline (1910), TW Jr (1912), and Jessie Mae (1914). Since the 1910 census has 2 of her 9 children having died before then (including Odessa), there must have been a still birth around 1901-1903. It has always been thought by the family that all of the children were Mattie's and TW's.
Would appreciate any help with this perplexing finding.
