It can be a little tricky to follow because of all the "Johns," but here's the sequence....
In 1729, Edward Dawson willed to his grandson, John Cash, son of John Cash, deceased, 50 acres of land in a tract he called "Mill Land" (also called Dawson's mill land in other records.)
We know that it was Mary Dawson, Edward's daughter, who married John Cash because after John's death she married again and her name is listed in the County records as "Mary Cash."(I have some other records that authenticate that, too.)
So, Mary Dawson (daughter of Edward) was married to John Cash and they had a son, also John Cash.(They appear to have had seven children total.)
In 1793, the younger John Cash (grandson of Edward Dawson)leaves that same tract of land to his own sons, John, William, Rezin, Jonathan and Isaiah. His Will also names his wife, Ann.(I know this to be Ann Shaw because of her father's Will, which names John Cash.)
After John's death, Ann and the sons sold the land. Here's the abstract from Montgomery County, Maryland:
Liber G: 436-438
Thomas Owen Williams from Ann Cash, John Cash, William Cash, Jonathan Cash and Isaiah Cash, all of Montgomery County, for £87..10, parcel known as Mill Land, or Dawson's Mill Land, containing 50 acres.Left by the will of Edward Dawson, 15 December 1729, to his grandson, John Cash, who is now deceased, and by his will, 15 December 1793, made over to parties herein.Signed by Ann Cash, John Cash, William Cash, Rezin Cash, Jonathan Cash and Isaiah Cash, before J. Holmes and Greenberry Howard.Acknowledged, and Ann Cash, wife of John Cash, deceased, and Margery Cash, Keziah Cash and Sarah Cash, wives of John Cash, William Cash and Jonathan Cash, all relinquished dower rights.
I'm not sure who the John Cash who ended up in North Carolina was or where (or if) Rachel Dawson fits into the blood line.I've seen trees that contain that information, too.
I do suspect that one or more of John Cash's & Ann Shaw's sons moved south, and I know that there are "southern Cashes" who have tried to link to the Maryland Cashes, but so far I haven't seen anything to authenticate that.I think it's likely though. We know that two of their daughters ended up down south.Dorcas (who married James Plummer) ended up in Fleming, Kentucky, Mary (who married Joseph Plummer) ended up in North Carolina, as did Henrietta (who married Joseph Jones). So it makes since that some of the boys did, also.I can account for sons William, Isaiah and Rezin, but I lose John, Richard and Jonathan.Interestingly, a John Cash and Richard Cash of about the right ages show up in Iredell, North Carolina and a Richard Cash in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.I strongly suspect that these were the sons of John & Ann, but am hoping that somebody from that line will find some authenticating information.
Hopefully the DNA testing that's now available will help in making the connection from North to South.... I would love to see that connection made and all the lines worked out!
