Hello Vikky,
You've brought up something I hadn't considered. Wilbur Cash never mentioned anything about his given name ever being anything different. He gave me copies of his group sheets and notes many years ago when we were in contact and those have nothing either. Since he died ca 1998, I'll have to ask his daughter if he ever said anything. Wilbur is less common than Wilburn, I think?
We've yet to discover the parents of Wilbur's gf, Allen Cash. He searched for decades for that info.
Since Wilbur's middle name was Massey (mother's maiden surname) it is certainly possible his first name was also from another family name. If you find a Wilburn lady marrying an Allen Cash...please! let me know.
