I erred on the married name of Margaret dau of Stephen. She married a JACKSON, not a SYKES, but did so before 1860. Stephen and 4 unmarried children are listed on 1860 census so he died after that date.

Newton was the son of Stephen, not nephew. Stephen's brother was Moses who named his son Moses Reuben. By 1860 Moses Newton was going by just Newton, perhaps because he had an uncle and a first cousin also named Moses. I also have the Lamar County history book and many folks were missed because their families did not contribute to it. I have not found the reference to Newton that my in-laws say is in that book.

This Stephen in Fayette County was born abt 1791. There was another Stephen born 1799. These two have been assumed as one person when they were actually cousins.
