HENRY WION was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, July 2, l844, and died at his home west of Decatur City, Iowa, November 2l, l9l9, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and l9 days. His father, JOHN WION, was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, in l809; his mother, NANCY WION, was born in Mason County, Virginia, in l867. When the deceased was ten years old, he moved with his parents to Decatur County, where he has since resided.
Answering his country's call, he served her faithfully during three years of the Civil War. July l4, l867, he was united in marriage to MARY E. LLOYD, daughter of JESSE and ELIZABETH LLOYD, of Decatur County, Iowa. To this union were born seven children: GEORGE J., of Clifton, Colorado; NANCY T., who died in infancy; JESSE L., of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; MRS. C.E. MCLAUGHLIN, of Lamoni, Iowa; MRS. F.W. CASH and MRS. A.S. ANDREW, of Kellerton, Iowa., and JOHN F., of Redding, Iowa.
For forty years he had been a consistent Christian and a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. His wife, six children, one brother, JOHN WION, of Tuskeego, Iowa, numerous other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn the departure of this honored and beloved man. The funeral, conducted by F.R. Johnston, Pastor of the M.E. Church, of Decatur City, was held at Elk Chapel, at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 23, l9l9, after which the body was brought to the Decatur Cemetery for burial.
