Hi, William:

Glad to see you here. You will find lots of opinions with the CASH family. That's good and healthy. The one thing I can guarantee you about genealogy, is that what you know today "may" change tomorrow. :-)

It's good and healthy to have so many people researching and comparing. You never know what's going to turn up as a new source is found or a new person enters the researching.

Chris and I agree on the point that there is no proof one way or the other. And - there may never be. However, I'm very glad that Chris keeps moving forward; he has found some good information.

And - yes - he's correct. Our William who settled in Virginia may have indeed been born before we thought. Or there may be a confusion with Williams. Again, without proof - no one knows for sure. I'm sure Chris will continue to check on this. He's pretty dedicated.

The reason I joined a Scottish Clan is that I believe in what they are doing in brining forth more information about our heritage and I enjoy the family spirit as we are all joined together in this endeavor. I am a supporting member of Clann MacTamhais (MacTamhais and MacCamish are the same name) in all ways; I can't expect others to devote their time, money, and energy into doing something for me unless I take part and help them with their work. I am devoted to helping to bring out the information on MacCamish/MacCash/Cash, which is where I believe the "origin" of Cash comes from. Belonging to a Clan puts me in touch with people who are searching with the same goal. Together we accomplish much more.

And - this year - I have met 4 cousins who I never knew existed. Comparing notes, learning about our family. It's great.

I believe my 2 previous posts in this thread speaks to where I am coming from on my belief of the CASH heritage.

However, some tips for you or anyone just beginning:

1. Make contact with your library. Speak with your genealogy librarian. The Internet is great to search on what is there; but it will be decades, if every, before some information is there. Libraries have trained staff, sponsored seminars, atlases, books, microfilm, microfiche, etc.

2. Take the time to take a class on how to research your genealogy. The tips and directions you pick up will save you time and money.

3. Genealogy is a life-time commitment, always changing.

4. Enjoy! These boards are wonderful places to make acquaintance with your "family".

JUST REMEMBER: When dealing with other individuals or pulling information from the Internet, always take time to check and reconfirm information that you find. The individual may be well intentioned, but they may or may not be as accurate or inaccurate as we are ourselves. The final responsibility on confirming your genealogy rests with you.

In kinship,
Patricia Adams
