hello jennifer: i am answering from the basque country, spain.casares is a very ancient spanish name. my grandfather was arzac casares, and he was born at the ancestral casares'family seat.
perhaps the indian grandmother was, way back, working for my ancestors, then the taking up of the family name. this was the done thing then. i've just heard of some casares, and arzac, in mexico in the 18th century. could this be the connection?
glad to enlarge the information. keep in touch if you wish. goodbye.
