I'm not related but found this info re Samuel Cary of Vermont and his service in the Civil War. His wife was Vina and they had daughters Ida, Ruby, Anna, Celia. Celia was born April 1880.
In the documents of the 67th Congress, 2nd Session of the Senate, they heard applications by soldiers & sailors of the Civil War and other wars, applying for pensions or increases in their pensions.
H.R. 7332. Celia Cary, aged 37 years, whose post office address is Poultney, Rutland Co., VT, is the helpless and dependent daughter of Samuel Cary, late a private, Company I, 16th Regiment New York Heavy Artillery, from Dec 24, 1863, to Aug 21, 1865, who was a pensioner under certificate No. 440261, at the rate of $30 per month and who died Sept 29, 1918. Parents of this claimant were married Jan 26, 1866. No one appears to have survived the soldier legally entitled to pension on his service. Medical and other evidence filed indicates claimant is legitimate daughter of soldier; that since childhood she has been mentally incompetent, crippled, and hunchbacked. She is not capable of properly caring for herself or of contributing to her own support. She is entirely without means, property or income from any source. No one is legally bound to her support. It is recommended her name be placed on the pension roll at the rate of $20 per month, paid through duly appointed guardian.
