This is a little out of my own Cary/Carey line, but did you know the "John Cary Plymoth Pilgrim" book is online at Google Books, and the text is searchable for names. You didn't provide a place of death for your Stephen, but I searched for "Stephen" and found one at random who died in New Orleans in 1814. Here is a link to that page:

Hope this helps. I use this book to help me get started, but I recommend you look for additional documentation for real "proofs"
