Jean, on the 1850 census for Choctaw Co. there is a Jesse Shumake, age 57, farmer, b. GA, Agga Shumake f. age 56, b. VA, Jesse Shumake, age 21, b. TN, Isabella Shumake, age 24, b. TN, Martha Shumake, age 17 b. Ill, and Carroll Shumake, age 15, b. TN. Could this be the father of Mary Agnes Shumake? HH # 49, pg. 4, dated Oct. 23, 1850. In the "Montgomery County History" pg. 145, there is a William Shewmake, b. Feb. 14, 1825, TN, m. Cornelia Francis Carver, b. 1833, NC. I wonder if this the brother of Mary Agnes Shumake? William Carver obtained two land patent in Carroll Co. s. one on Dec. 4, 1837, and one on January 27, 1838. He was in the 1840 Carroll Co. Census and by 1850 he was in the Choctaw Co. Census, and he apparently died between 1852 and 1854. His first wife apparently died between 1844 and 1847. I have a copy of a deed between William Carver and his wife Mary A, and William Shumake in Choctaw Co. dated Feb. 11, 1853. There is a Shewmake Cemetery in Montgomery Co. and is on top of a hill. I went there once, at least to the bottom of the hill, but I didn't climb the hill. It was in the middle of no where. I wonder if William's first wife might have been a LYMAN. The name seems to have been carried down through at least two descendants of William Martin Carver. I wonder if William Carver was in Pickens CO. AL before he came to MS. William Shewmake b. 1825, TN had nine children. I have their names if you want them and you decide that he is the brother of Mary Agnes Shumake. Could you send me a list of the children and grandchildren or Jesse Andrew Carver? Enough for now. Charlotte.
