Dear Lynn:
I think Jerrell was a relative for that and similar reasons (He and his children were apparently around Mahaska at some point). But the reference to his being born in Ohio complicates things. The Carvers did move around a fair bit. Census records even suggest some of them would go out west and then return back to the family settlement before striking out again. There may also have been more than one Jerrell in that generation (we have two Ishmaels, probably three Pleasants and a couple of Jesse's so it is not impossible). And I have never found out what happened to the other Carvers living in Grayson in 1810 near Pleasant. If they were as I suspect his relatives their children would be first cousins to our first known generation. Finally the name Jerrell has been in the Carver family since about the 1700's according to an earlier post here at genforum. I think possibly the names Pleasant, Jesse and Jerrell cam with the Carver parent and the names Nancy and Ishmael came with his wife. But that is speculation. I do not know what any of the above really proves but I do think Jerrell was related. One contributor has offerred evidence that the relation was as a brother to the others. Matt has found information about the Ohio birth of a Jerrell. These need not be mutually exclusive. But I hope we can find more on Jerrell and his family.
