Depending on where the land is located...I have a gt-gt-gt-Uncle, BENJAMIN CARVER, who was born about 1783-1790, married February 6, 1822, Wilson Co., TN, NANCY LUMPKIN. Accord- ing to a court record, "He left her several times and did not provide for her when he was with her. He has again left her. She has 3 small children. She petitions for the privileges of a feme sole. She has a small legacy bequeathed her by her deceased father. Petition is accompanied by the signatures of 13 persons. She can sue for divorce." This is from the ACTS of TENNESSEE, 1826.

We do not know what happened to either him, her or the three children!

Bob
