According to Margaret Pilcher in her study, she claims Robert is son of Robert& Margaret Gillespie Carruthers, I find this tobe incorrect.
Robert 1715 is my ancestors oldest brother, he did in fact marry Maragert Gillespie, She is 1st cousin to Thomas Gillespie of Rowan Co,NC.
In all my research so far Pilcher is inccorrect, and Robret 1762 is son of Robert 1742 and his wife Margaret White Caruthers Robert 1742 is nephew of Robert 1715, and is son of Hugh twin to my ancestor John. The Williamson,Bedford,Maury and Marshall Co, Robert Caruthers is son of John , 1st cousin to Robert 1742 .
Margaret Gillespie b. 1718 Pa, dau of Patrick Gillespie , She and the Rowan Co, line are decendants of the Famed Rev.George Gillespie Jr.
I'm a Carruthers of this line years of study, and the family is also searching forthe fact, and the fact so far , place your Robert with Robert 1742 and wife Margaret White, Robert 1762 arrived in Sumner Co,TN in 1800 with Robert 1742, they stoped in Jessamine Co,KY,before arriving in TN, Robert 1742's brother James and his family resided in Jessamine.
At the time of Robert 1762 birth Margaret Gillespie was 56 years of age, past authors list children to her and Robert born as late as 1782. It didn't happen.
Robert 1715, and Marg moved from Nottingham Pa to Rowan Co,NC in 1764, brother James 1718 sent 4 children from Ireland to the USA, Robert 1715 escorted the 4 childern and his family to brother John's(1725) in Cumberland Co,Pa, Robert 1715 & John 1725 Ecorted 2 nephews Andrew and John to Cabaruss, and Mecklinburg Co,NC. in 1764.
At this point we have turned up more records in NC, we have found the Robert 1742's brother Jim had a 1st wife and sired childern , before his remarriage to Mary Smith,
so Far one son to be mensioned is Hugh,and other records make mension of a Robert.
By our Gillespie research , the marriage of Robert 1715 & Marg 1718 are recorded, No children listed .

I have been researching the family forover 18 years,all my research is done in the field, I have all of Robert 1715's,James 1718, William 1722,Eleanor 1723,Hugh 1725, and John 1725's records . There is still a lot to sort out in the NC family, as we are joined by 3 cousin lines.
Sould you place your Robert with Robert & Marg White, you are at this time 98% correct . As a family before we write the book on the family we want 135%. We are at this time as we have forthe 50 years still working on the family.
