My ggggrandfather, Neil McNeil, was in Marion County at that time. His son, Laughlin McNeil, married a Henrietta Caruthers. That info I found on the Civil War Pension site. Are you aware of other Caruthers in that area at that time? It is an unusual name, so I thought I'd check. Records state they applied for the pension from Lee County, Florida, in 1908.
Let me know if you see a possible connection.
