William Caruthers migrated to Timber Ridge in Augusta County (later part of it became Rockbridge County), Virginia, around 1748, probably from North Carolina. Most Virginia Carutherses (various spellings) can be traced to William. See "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia," extracted from original court records of Augusta County -- 1745-1800.
