Hi Sara:
I've just come across your query of 2003 on the Cartners of Cumberland.I am researching my husband's family history (family name Black)in Cumberland.I'm back into the 1700's and have found links between the Blacks, Cartners, Hennells and Nixons. In 1680 Hitchin Cartner married Mary Bell.Parish records indicate she died and in 1688 Hitchin Cartner married Jane Hennell.Hitchin Cartner, probably a son or grandson of Hitchin Cartnermarried a Jane Wilkin on February 12, 1735.A William Cartner was a witness to the marriage of my husband's G.G.G. Grandparents John Black and Anne Nixon on February 5, 1780. My husband's Grt. and Grt. Grt. Grandfathers were both named William Hennell Black. In 1813 in Rockcliffe, Cumberland a John Cartner married an Elizabeth Black.
I have the Parish of Cumberland film at the Library and will have a look to see if I can find anything on your Cartners and if there is a link.I will get back to you but give me some time. With it being the Christmas season things are very busy.
